TikTok – Beat the clock, be on TikTok before everyone else

Fastest growing social networkTiktok, as you may or may not know, is the world’s fastest growing social network with over 500 million installations across mobile devices. Our guide will help you to get the best results from the app and how to use TikTok advertising for business. Although relatively small before 2018, the explosion in popularity has been helped by the acquisition of musical.ly app which allows users to sing along to popular songs and upload them. Tiktok is a similar platform to the now defunct ‘Vine’, where users upload videos up to 15 seconds in length. Videos have only a short amount of time to get their message across be it music, comedy, creative or a skill.
Who’s on Tik Tok?Users of the platform tend to be generation Z with 66% of users under the age of 30. The gender split is relatively neutral with 56% of users being male and 44% being female. TikTok allows you to reach a much younger audience than traditional social networks.
Working with influencersThe best route to marketing on TikTok might not be all through the paid side. TikTok does allow paid ads on their service, but as it’s a relatively new platform it is best to engage the audience by creating your own content and working with influencers. Working with influencers gives you an opportunity to reach potential customers through a trusted source whilst building your own presence.
Creating contentA more difficult proposition, but a potentially lucrative one, is to create your own content. You’ll need to have your own video and creative team on hand to help and you’ll also need to have a good grasp of what your audience will want to see.
Paid AdvertisingYour other option is paid advertising, which is currently rolling out globally. You can choose multiple different ad formats and target with a high granularity. Like other ad platforms, you can choose multiple optimisation methods and set your own budget limits.
Reaching your audienceWith such a huge user base and a young and engaged crowd, TikTok plays an important role in the marketing funnel, generating interest and building an aura of trust around your brand. Working with influencers you can spread your reach across TikTok, in addition to platforms such as Instagram, to reach different audience sectors.
